The critical role of Gimap5 in Treg survival/function is also evident in Type 1 diabetes in BioBreeding rats [105, 106] and may clarify why polyadenylation polymorphisms in GIMAP5, leading to rather subtle changes in gene expression, are associated with human autoimmune diseases such as T1D [114] and SLE [115]. This evidence concerns the gene GIMAP5 and autoimmune disease.
