Lastly, postmortem brain tissue from schizophrenia patients has been found to have higher levels of histone deacetylase, HDAC1, and the level of HDAC1 has been shown to be inversely correlated with GAD67 (Entrez Gene: 2571) protein expression, which tends to be decreased in schizophrenia patients [30,31] and argues that histones may play a role in this complex disease. The gene discussed is GAD1; the disease is schizophrenia.
