ACE and hypertensive disorder: The American Diabetes Association (ADA), the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee (JNC-7), the European Society of Hypertension (ESH), and the Japanese Society of Hypertension recommend the use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), together with lifestyle modifications, for type 2 diabetic patients with hypertension [2–5] because these agents decrease the risk of cardiovascular events [6–9], diabetic retinopathy [10], and diabetic nephropathy [9, 11–18].
