As expected, CD133+ cells increased 0.5-1-fold after chemotherapeutic treatment (Fig 1D and 1E), and furthermore, the residual CRC cells (i.e., containing more CD133+ cells) also showed an increased sphere-forming capacity (Fig 2E, P<0.01, 2F, P<0.001), suggesting that chemotherapy, indeed, enriches CSCs in colorectal cancer through CSC-cell-autonomous chemoresistance.
