GPR55 and obesity disorder: Moreno-Navarrete et al. (2012) and co-workers reported that GPR55 expression in VAT is positively associated with obesity and type-2 diabetes. LPI plasma levels were found to be higher in obese compared to lean patients. In differentiated adipocytes from visceral fat of obese patients, LPI raised IC calcium levels. These results suggested that the LPI/GPR55 system is positively associated with obesity in humans (Moreno-Navarrete et al., 2012). Taken together, these studies would suggest that a GPR55 agonist may increase weight gain and fat storage (Henstridge, 2012).
