In addition, increased SNCA mRNA levels were observed in SNpc of PD (Chiba-Falek et al., 2006), and reduced levels of Dnmt1 have been observed in postmortem brains from PD and dementia with LB (DLB) patients, as well as in brains of α-syn transgenic mice; authors suggest that this effect could be a novel mechanism of epigenetic dysregulation in LB-related diseases such as PD (Desplats et al., 2011). This evidence concerns the gene DNMT1 and Parkinson disease.
