This function very likely depends on the role of EphA2 in activation of the PI3K pathway, which plays a role in at least two anti-apoptotic signaling pathways activated by Chlamydia infection: the inactivation of the pro-apoptotic BH3-only protein Bad [13] and the stabilization of the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family member Mcl-1 [14].
