MMP2 and MMP9 are implicated in the invasive phenotype of various malignant neoplasias, such as tumors of the colon, breast, ovary, kidney, or skin.31–37 The variant MMP2 genotype (−1306 CT or TT) was correlated with a substantially reduced risk of breast cancer.38 Expression of MMP2, 7, and 11 was determined greater in pancreatic carcinoma than in normal pancreas (P < 0.01).39 The gene discussed is MMP2; the disease is breast cancer.
