The presence of activated circulating pro-inflammatory markers, such as high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), systemic release of pro-thrombotic markers, such as plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1), and increased markers of endothelial dysfunction, such as E-selectin, are involved in the pathogenesis of vascular dysfunction [1–3] and IR [4,5]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and endothelial dysfunction.
