Although ramucirumab, a monoclonal antibody vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-2 antagonist, in combination with paclitaxel would increase overall survival in patients treated for advanced gastric cancer (GC) [8], drugs such as bevacizumab that target vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling have failed to prolong the survival of patients with advanced GC in Phase II and III clinical trials [9, 10]. The gene discussed is KDR; the disease is gastric cancer.
