Quigley et al. (2000) have shown that, in rats with experimentally induced glaucoma, BDNF flow to the retina is significantly reduced [39], whereas, in another study, using an animal model of glaucoma, it was demonstrated that injection of BDNF into the vitreous cavity is associated with greater RGC survival than untreated eyes [40]. Here, BDNF is linked to glaucoma.
