Epidemiological studies have shown an association between apoB gene polymorphisms and generalized and regional obesity and an increase in various lipoprotein subfractions (total cholesterol [TC], low density lipoprotein cholesterol [LDL-C], triglyceride [TG]), and atherosclerosis [10-12]. The gene discussed is APOB; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
