Considering that MBP peptides are able to initiate mechanical hypersensitivity [28] and that MBP-derived APLs can modulate the MBP-specific T cell immune response, we studied the effects of immunization with MBP-derived APL on pain hypersensitivity, immune cell reactivity, prevalence of regulatory T cells, and cytokine expression profile in neuropathic animals following chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve, a widely accepted animal model of peripheral neuropathy. The gene discussed is MBP; the disease is peripheral neuropathy.
