Expression of several genes in both strains at this time point seems to be important to sustain crown colonization, namely FTF2, FNR1, EBR1, PacC and RHR1. The upregulation of FTF2 actually begins in the root, in the case of the WV strain, and it is surprising as former analyses carried out by our group suggested this gene was not involved in host infection (unpublished results). Here, COL7A1 is linked to infection.
