TYMP and cancer: The contradictive role of TYMP in cancer therapy refers to that high levels of TYMP are required for the activation of 5-fluorouracil prodrugs such as capecitabine to 5-fluoro-2’-deoxyuridine-5’-monophosphate (5-FdUMP) as the thymidylate synthase inhibitor via the reverse catabolic pathway, whereas high levels of TYMP at the same time act as the tumor growth factor [17-19].
