Currently, the CellSearch System (Veridex, Raritan, NJ, USA), a semiautomated immunomagnetic method for the quantification of CTCs based on the epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM), is the first standardized system approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [9] and has been used to detect CTCs in patients with breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer [10-12]. This evidence concerns the gene EPCAM and colorectal cancer.
