Infection of mice with either T. spiralis cercariae [141] or antigens [147] prior to dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (DNBS)-colitis induction reduced its severity and was correlated with higher IL-4, IL-13, and TGF-β production and down-regulation of IFN-γ, IL-1β, myeloperoxidase activity, and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression. The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is colitis.
