The chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (CCL2) or chemokine monocyte chemoattractant protein- (MCP-) 1 is believed to play a major role in the pathogenesis of hypertensive vascular disease and atherosclerosis [8, 9] and may also contribute to the pathogenesis of RA, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and tumors [10]. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is atherosclerosis.
