NOS3 and myocardial ischemia: Nitric oxide (NO) plays a central role in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-injury [1–3] and is constitutively produced within the endothelium and in several blood cell types by the isoform 3 of NO synthase (NOS3) e.g. in B- and T-lymphocytes [4], eosinophils [5], and in red blood cells (RBCs) [6, 7].
