Our research was centered on the FTO rs9939609 gene polymorphism because the FTO and MC4R genes are the most frequently associated causal markers of polygenic obesity, the rs9939609 SNP being the most commonly described in correlation with this disorder and different metabolic syndrome characteristics (obesity, BMI, abdominal circumference, weight, WHR (Waist/ Hip Ratio), body fat percentage) [18,19,21-25]. The gene discussed is FTO; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
