In vascular tissues of patients with atherosclerosis, DNA methylation alterations of 15-lipoxygenase (ALOX15), estrogen receptors (ESR1 and ESR2), monocarboxylate transporter 3 (MCT3), and tissue factor pathway inhibitor 2 (TFPI2) genes have been reported using a candidate gene approach [5–9]. This evidence concerns the gene TFPI2 and atherosclerosis.
