IDH1 and leukemia: Reduced levels of 5hmC in myelodysplasia and leukaemia frequently associate with mutations in TET2 [30,36,37] but changes in 5hmC levels are also thought to result from inhibition of TET activity by the onco-metabolite 2-hydroxyglutarate which accumulates through mutations of isocitrate dehydrogenases (IDH1/2) [38,39].
