Levels of the classic Th2 cytokine IL-4 correlated closely with IFNγ concentrations, as did IL-10 concentrations, and both were associated with better control and clearance of cryptococcal infection and lower mortality (although the mortality association with these individual cytokines did not remain statistically significant following adjustment for multiple comparisons, requiring validation in future studies). The gene discussed is IL4; the disease is cryptococcosis.
