Regarding the 5-HT2A-R as a drug target for treating depression and epilepsy, it has recently been shown in WAG/Rij rats that sub-chronic treatment with aripiprazole, a new antipsychotic with antagonism at 5-HT2A/5-HT6-Rs and also partial agonism at D2 DA and 5-HT1A and 5-HT7-Rs, has an anti-AS effect, and positive modulatory actions on depression, anxiety, and memory which might also be beneficial in other epileptic syndromes (Russo et al., 2013). The gene discussed is HTR2A; the disease is depressive disorder.
