Alpha-synuclein, an aggregation-prone and amyloid-forming protein, plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of synucleinopathies such as Parkinson’s disease (PD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and multiple system atrophy (MSA) and is being explored as a biomarker in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), blood plasma, and serum [1,2]. This evidence concerns the gene SNCA and Parkinson disease.
