The overexpression of human apo CIII in mice, rabbits and pigs has been shown to reduce lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity and lead to hypertriglyceridemia, which is associated with atherosclerosis (Ding et al., 2011; Ito et al., 1990; Wei et al., 2012).
