While increased inflammation in first episode psychosis has been described before,19,44 and previous studies have shown that higher inflammation (high levels of IL-2 and IL-6) is associated with a poorer clinical outcome in patients with treatment-resistant and/or chronic schizophrenia,23,25,26 our study is the first to show that this link is already present at the onset of psychosis. Here, IL2 is linked to psychotic disorder.
