Interestingly, the mislocalization of proteins to the nucleus and defects in nucleocytoplasmic transport after rhinovirus and poliovirus infections were attributed to the degradation of Nups (Nups 62, 153, 214, and 358), resembling the results we obtained for GP63-dependent cleavage of NPC-proteins [10,33–35]. The gene discussed is NPC1; the disease is poliovirus infection.
