When mRNA levels were assessed according to the clinical conditions of liver fibrosis (without cirrhosis) or cirrhosis (Fig. 1C and 1D), the NGF mRNA levels were higher in the group with fibrosis than in the group with cirrhosis (p = 0.027 and p = 0040), whereas p75NTR expression levels were the opposite, with higher expression in patients with cirrhosis than in the group with liver fibrosis; these differences were significant (p = 0.031 and p = 0.036), regardless of viral or non-viral disease. This evidence concerns the gene NGFR and Hepatic fibrosis.
