Kimchi-Sarfaty C et al showed that polymorphisms in ABCB1 might affect the timing of cotranslational folding and insertion of P-gp into the membrane, thereby altering the structure of substrate and inhibitor interaction sites.[80] Recently, attention has been focused on the genetic mutations in ABCB1 gene that affect responsiveness to AEDs in patients with epilepsy, whereas previous studies reporting the association between ABCB1 gene polymorphisms and response to AEDs provided inconclusive results. Here, ABCB1 is linked to epilepsy.
