One of the mechanisms which may contribute to upregulation of LMWPTP expression levels, could be based on an altered methylation pattern of ACP1. Using an in silico analysis with the online database MENT (http://mgrc.kribb.re.kr:8080/MENT/) [15], we observed that ACP1 is hypomethylated in colon cancer as compared to normal colonic tissue (n = 680; P < 0.0001), providing a possible explanation for the observed upregulation of gene expression (Supplementary Figure S1B). This evidence concerns the gene ACP1 and colonic neoplasm.
