A proposed mechanism of action for RBM3 is that it may promote tumorigenesis in early stages of cancer by affecting DDR (DNA damage repair) and checkpoint integrity, thereby lowering the threshold for selection of more malignant clones[8, 13] and once an invasive tumour is established, high levels of RBM3 may influence genomic stability and, hence, chemotherapy sensitivity.
