Combination of two novel urinary cell-cycle arrest biomarkers, i.e. the insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 and the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 ([TIMP-2]×[IGFBP7] panel) was described and validated in two multicenter studies for prediction of risk of moderate and severe AKI (AKI stage 2 and 3 according to KDIGO 2012 classification) in critically ill patients. The gene discussed is TIMP2; the disease is acute kidney injury.
