Recently, we showed that α-catulin is highly expressed in malignant melanoma cells compared to melanocytes and that α-catulin is a key driver of tumor progression, invasion and metastasis via the upregulation of E-cadherin and the downregulation of mesenchymal genes such as N-cadherin, Snail/Slug and the matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 [24]. The gene discussed is SNAI2; the disease is melanoma.
