Interestingly, HDAC5 overexpression intumor cell lines has been shown to blunt tumor growth and promote apoptosis throughthe extrinsic pathway32, underpinning the tumor suppressor potentialfor HDAC5. In addition, we found a strong positive correlation betweenHDAC5 expression levels and survival time of patients with gliomas (Figure 4), strengthening the notion that HDAC5 may be animportant factor in the epigenetic control of genes involved in tumor growth andapoptosis of cancer cells. This evidence concerns the gene HDAC5 and glioma.
