Further, current studies that show protective effects in noncancerous cells due to TRPM2 inhibition (7–9), along with our studies here that show the absence of harmful effects in noncancerous breast cells after TRPM2 inhibition or RNAi silencing, suggest that pharmacologic agents that inhibit TRPM2 are expected to produce deleterious effects only in breast cancer cells. The gene discussed is TRPM2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
