In fact, given that miR-133b is downregulated in HNSCC (and many other cancers), our study has significant therapeutic implications- (1) miR-133b mimics could potentially be used to alleviate the oncogenic effects of endogenous Nup214 that lead to malignancies, (2) molecules other than miRNA mimics such as small molecules, nanoparticles or other silencing RNAs could also be used against Nup214. Here, NUP214 is linked to cancer.
