Initial in vitro studies using saracatinib (AZD0530) resulted in decreased MMP-9 activation and ECM degradation in established HNSCC cell lines, and also reduced invasion in HNSCC cells lines from primary tumors and matched lymph node metastases in combination with the phospholipase C inhibitor U73122 [168,169]. The gene discussed is MMP9; the disease is head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
