PKCI encodes a serine/threonine protein kinase, which has been reported to regulate NF-κB activity and neurotrophin-mediated neuronal differentiation and survival via neuronal growth factor.25PKCI has been previously associated with MDD in a previous analysis using the same human data set.26PKCI has also been determined as upregulated in suicidal individuals, compared with non-suicidal individuals, both with mood disorders.27 These findings support PKCI as a modulator of mood disorders. The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is major depressive disorder.
