SOX2 and demyelinating disease: In addition to the endogenous role of Sox2 in the non-pathologic state, populations of Sox2-immunopositive cells have been detected near sites of injury in the CNS in mice including lesions of demyelinating disease, hypoglossal nerve avulsion, and penetrating stab wounds (Fagerlund et al. 2011; Magnus et al. 2007; Rasmussen et al. 2011).
