INS and sarcopenia: Since the role of central adiposity in the catabolism of proteins has been recognized (Schrager et al., 2007), derived in part from the decreased effect of insulin in protein synthesis and increased production of proinflammatory cytokines, the presence of a reduced number of women with sarcopenia may be linked to the average age of the sample (Rolland et al., 2008) and the characteristics of their menopause.
