The altered activity/expression of the NR2B subunit due to post-transcriptional modifications (Qiu et al., 2011), ubiquitinization (Ehlers, 2003) or epigenetic modifications (Lee et al., 2008; Qiang et al., 2010; Tyler and Allan, 2014) have been implicated in the modulation of learning and memory processing, pain perception, feeding behavior as well as being involved in neurological disorders.
