Notably, oral immunization with recombinant mannose-binding protein ameliorates Acanthamoeba keratitis in the Chinese hamster model [30, 31], and has shown that the mannose-binding protein gene in Acanthamoeba contains six exons and five introns that span 3.6 kbp.
