In this study, we developed a novel rat model of NAFLD/NASH-related carcinogenesis and investigated the potential capacity of (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a major component of GTCs, to inhibit the occurrence of HFD- and DEN-induced glutathione S-transferase placental form (GST-P)-positive foci, an indicator of preneoplastic HCC lesions in rats (Tsuda et al., 2003; Ando et al., 2007). The gene discussed is GSTP1; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
