In a multicentre randomised control trial including 361 patients with severe sepsis admitted to the ICU, Wu and colleagues showed that administration of Tα1 for 5 days after sepsis diagnosis significantly reduced in-hospital mortality compared with placebo (relative risk of death 0.73, 95% CI =0.54 to 0.98, P =0.032), but with no significant difference in ICU mortality, length of ICU stay, and duration of mechanical ventilation [47]. The gene discussed is TAAR1; the disease is Sepsis.
