LCN2 and kidney disorder: In a previous issue of Critical Care, Matsa and colleagues [1] suggest that, in patients with no kidney disease prior to admission to the ICU, both plasma (pNGAL) and urinary (uNGAL) neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin have a fair predictive value to diagnose the occurrence of acute kidney injury (AKI) for up to 72 hours.
