Previous studies have identified that the introduction of wt-p53 into tumor cells may result in cells which are able to effectively perform p53 functions, such as proliferation inhibition, induction of apoptosis, inhibition of angiogenesis, delayed metastasis and increased sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents; thus, wt-p53 itself may act as a therapeutic agent against the cancer (9).
