LIF and ovarian carcinoma: Previously, Duluc D, et al. reported that ovarian cancer ascites contained high concentrations of leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) and IL-6 and that both skew monocyte differentiation into TAM like cells, suggesting an important role of IL-6 in TAM generation.[10] More recently, Dijkgraaf EM et al. reported that treatment with cisplatin or carboplatin induced the production of IL-6 from ovarian cancer cell lines and increased the potency of cell lines to skew monocytes into M2 macrophage differentiation.
