Based on human physiology and pathophysiology, our results and the results from other studies seem to make some sense and could be relevant to our understanding of the pathophysiology of overweight- and obesity-related hypertension, because overweight and obesity in particular are associated with lower circulating concentrations of BNP and fragments of the BNP prohormone, as well as lower circulating concentrations of ANP and fragments of the ANPs prohormone for that matter [4,7,15,16,35]. The gene discussed is NPPB; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
