Ghrelin improves experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) [13] and autoimmune colitis [14] by inhibiting the mRNA and protein expression of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, enhancing the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, and inhibiting apoptosis of immune cells [15,16]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.
